Constitution
- The name of the Society is the B.C. Elders Communication Center Society.
- The purpose of the B.C. Elders Communication Center Society is to provide a central communications office for Aboriginal Elders, their family members, and support workers. This Center facilitates the Elders need to keep in touch with what is going on in the aboriginal communities of B.C. and in the larger global community and it provides the means for Elders Voices to be heard throughout B.C.
- The Society will assist with the further development of the first B.C. Elders Council, whose purpose will be to address the crucial issues and concerns of the Elders in B.C., these issues will include but will not be limited to: Elders Abuse, Preventing First Nation's Homelessness and Housing Solutions for our aboriginal people already living in urban settings (away from their families, traditional lands and culture), Chronic Health Concerns and Elders Home Care/Extended Care Facilities, and the much needed strengthening of communication between our Elders and our Youth.
- This office will publish and distribute a provincial newsletter called the "Elders Voice" each month, continuously distributing information to all Aboriginal communities in B.C. through their areas Elders Contact Person.
- This Center will provide a toll-free number, email, fax and web site "Preserving the Past" (www.bcelders.com) to assist with the further development of the first 'Elders Communication Network'.
- This Center will begin assisting with fundraising to support the Annual Aboriginal Elders Gatherings, and the Society will strive towards the goal of being able to assist Elders in smaller/isolated communities or urban centres to attend the Gathering each year - as these groups sometimes face the biggest hardships where fundraising is concerned.
- The Directors shall serve without remuneration, and the Directors shall not receive either directly or indirectly any profits from their position as Director but may be reimbursed for all expenses necessarily and reasonably incurred by the Director in the performance of their duties and while engaged in the affairs of the Society.
- The Society shall be carried on without purpose of gain for its members and no part of the income of the Society shall be payable or otherwise available for the personal benefit of the members thereof, and the Society must not distribute any gain, profit or dividend or otherwise dispose of its assets to a member of the Society without receiving full and valuable consideration, and any profits or other accretions to the Society shall be used for promoting its purposes. The Society is constituted for charitable purposes.
- Upon wind-up or dissolution of the Society the assets remaining after the payment of all cost, charges, and expenses properly incurred in the wind-up, including the remuneration of a liquidator, and after payment of employees of the Society of any arrears of salaries or wages, and after payment of any other debts of the Society, shall be distributed to a charitable organization (or organizations) in Canada, registered under the provisions of the Income Tax Act (Canada), which shall be designated by the Board of Directors.
