1: First NationsThis Center seeks to fill the gap that exists between Aboriginal Elders and the rest of the world by sharing our culture and our Elders opinions, beliefs and wisdom. |
2: SeniorsAboriginal Elders in our communities are seniors, however, research indicates that the Elders are not current with what is going on within their senior's peer group. Demonstrating that methods used to relay information to First Nations Elders are not designed specifically to reach them; which is an area that this Center was designed to facilitate. |
3: Children, Youth and FamilyWithout our Elders and the wisdom that they have to share with our young people, our future generations will not know who they are. We need their influence to guide our youth and hold our First Nations families together. If the Elders words, beliefs and Stories are not preserved for the generations that follow, we may not see the dawn of another century, with our culture intact. |
4: Community EnhancementOn a broad PROVINCIAL scale, it will be clear that when so many Elders lives are enriched in all of these (200 plus) communities, facilitating the inclusion of Elders instead of the exclusion of them as a whole that the benefits will be great to the present generations and future generations. Thousands of people's lives will be enriched by their being included in a Center that is designed to serve them, listen to them, and understand them. (Many Elders feel cut-off from their family and peers, especially those who may only see one another once a year at the Gathering). |
